Term Paper Format

Things you should know about your term paper format. Though every tutor suggests own requirements as for term paper format, there are commonly-adopted rules you should follow, completing either your term or research paper.

• Creating a contents page make sure to stick to the following order: title page, paper abstract, outline or table of contents, list of illustrations, the text of the paper, footnotes, bibliography and index.
• The title page. Type the title of your paper, your name, your instructor's name, the title of the course and the date in the centre of the sheet about halfway down the page. Place each entry on a separate line.
• You should write the paper abstract on its own page. Also develop a brief summary of your term paper content.
• Build up outlines prior to the final paper. To generate a table of contents just amend your outline by indicating the appropriate page numbers of the sections you've sketched.
• Illustrations should be listed on an individual page. Specify the name and page number of the used illustrations.
• Make an index. List down all the important subjects, citations, names and references presented in your paper, alongside with the page number on which each reference occurs. You should follow the alphabetical order forming the index page.
• Place page numbers in the upper right-hand corner of each page, but for the title page. Though the title page does not have its number, you should include it when counting the total amount of pages. So you will mark the page after the title page as "2".

Remember that:

• Tutors seldom require paper extracts, outlines and tables of contents, lists of illustrations and indexes. Please consult your tutor about the format requirements and make sure to comply with them.
• For some research papers it is not necessary to have a separate title page. In this case write the paper information on the first page of the text. As a rule it is placed in the upper left-hand corner with the title placed two lines below that and centred in the middle of the page.
