Writing a term paper gives you an excellent opportunity to explore the subject deeper than other aspects of a definite course. If you set your mind to writing it yourself, do your best to complete it or never start writing it.
The process of writing a term paper teaches you to select the most meaningful and appropriate words and concepts, construct your argument and express your thoughts logically as well as it develops your analytical thinking and your organizational skills.
Having an opinion about something is not enough for writing a good term paper. You should support your term paper idea with reliable facts and convincing arguments. For that you should collect sufficient relevant information, using the library, Internet resources, articles and magazines.
Thinking about the topic is the main step in producing a paper. You must digest carefully what you have read. The term paper is not a list of ideas you gained from perusing the literature inserted between the intro and the summary. You should show the professor your complete understanding of he subject and that you have done a thorough work with the pertinent informational materials.
A term paper outline is an alternative way of thinking about your topic. Put down some different ways of introducing your topic and your ideas. It might be a cohesive argument, or some connected headlines arranged in a logical manner. You may also choose to make a thesis statement and in the course of the essay to prove and support it.
As soon as you have written out your plan, start communicating your ideas to paper. You should follow the outline of your term paper.
Remember to include these elements into your term paper:
- Introduce the message of your paper ( statement of purpose)
- Express it (the main body)
- Remind the main points under discussion ( conclusion)
Unite the common ideas in a single paragraph. If your outline is well structured it will be very helpful. It is not a good idea to get off the subject in the middle of the paragraph and turn to discussing something new and irrelevant. Every single word of your term paper should refer to the general topic.
Don’t write either in short abrupt sentences or too long straying sentences, containing more than one main idea.
Now it is time to gloss your paper:
- Read it in a several days after your completing it;
- Read it aloud to make sure the language and sentence structure sounds natural and clear;
- Check for spelling, punctuation and grammar nuances
- revise the footnotes and references
- The citations you use when writing a term paper must serve the following purposes:
- Present the evidence of the authors words
- Avoid misrepresentation through restatement.
- Original version expresses the ideas better than the paraphrase
- Tables, diagrams and other graphs should be self–explanatory.
